Upper House Unveils ‘WITHIN’: An Immersive Theatre Series

Upper House is proud to announce WITHIN, a new multi-sensory immersive theatre production created in partnership with internationally-renowned creative studio ONE HUNDRED. As the newest chapter in the brand’s Art Encounters programme, the experience reimagines its luxury hotel environments into dynamic, interactive stages where audience joins the narrative. WITHIN debuts across three consecutive weekends this October, staging sequential runs in Hong Kong, Chengdu, and Shanghai.

Crafted by key visionaries behind Punchdrunk’s acclaimed Sleep No More, WITHIN offers an intimate theatrical adventure for the audience and performers across three House-specific chapters: Upper House Hong Kong presents The Dreamer, an ascending, dreamy journey into a peaceful sanctuary; Upper House Chengdu hosts The Phoenix, an exploration across time leading into a hidden garden; and Upper House Shanghai unveils The Collector, an exploration of secret encounters and curiosities.

“With every edition of Art Encounters, we look for new and unexpected ways to connect people with culture,” said Teresa Muk, Head of Brand and Strategic Marketing at Swire Hotels. “WITHIN captures the very essence of Upper House, from our spirit of unscripted hospitality and genuine connection to the fact that no two Houses are the same. It gives our guests a fresh way to feel our spaces, filled with surprise, sensory wonder and creative discovery.”

“Great immersive theatre thrives on intimacy and curiosity, and Upper House has given us the creative freedom to redefine the way art is experienced,” said Conor Doyle, Artistic Director and Choreographer at ONE HUNDRED. “Through WITHIN, we’ve taken what makes each House special and used performers, movement, light, and sound to turn quiet corridors into living stories. Audiences don’t just watch—they step directly into the performance and shape their own experience.”

First launched in 2019 as Encounters Across Cultures and now renamed Art Encounters, Upper House’s signature programme celebrates the power of cross-cultural collaboration, grounded in the belief that creativity flourishes at the intersection of cultures. Inspired by both local and international perspectives, the programme encourages artistic exploration, cultural exchange, deep emotional connections and new ways of seeing the world.

WITHIN arrives in Hong Kong, Chengdu and Shanghai this October. Complimentary and open to all, the immersive 20-minute experience is available by advance reservation, with limited spaces available. Priority booking for Upper House members begins on 2 September with public bookings opening on 14 September.
