During our recent family media assignment to Pattaya, in Thailand, my wife, our son Leonardo, and I had the opportunity to explore Ramayana Water Park a destination that had been on our radar for quite some time. Leonardo is no novice when it comes to aquatic entertainment; despite his young age, he has splashed, slid, and paddled through an impressive lineup of water parks across Asia and beyond. Spanning an incredible 160,000 square meters, Ramayana Water Park is built on a scale that immediately commands respect. Located roughly 40 minutes from central Pattaya, the park nestles against a picturesque backdrop of rolling green hills, natural lakes, and lush valley scenery. Unlike many conventional water parks that feel like vast fields of concrete and exposed fiberglass, Ramayana has been carefully integrated into its natural surroundings. Designed around the thematic concept of a long-lost ancient city, the park is filled with subtle architectural details, stone-carved ruins, and shaded pathways lined with tropical flora.

Tucked neatly into a quiet, breezy zone of the park, our cabana served as our private sanctuary throughout the day. Outfitted with comfortable loungers, a cooling ceiling fan, personal power outlets, and a secure digital locker, it gave us a stress-free base camp. We could leave our cameras, dry clothes, and personal belongings safely locked away while we hit the water. Whenever Leonardo needed a quick hydration break or my wife and I wanted to step out of the sun for a moment of quiet relaxation, our private cabana was waiting—allowing us to pace ourselves for what turned out to be an eight-hour aquatic marathon.
Built for Young Explorers
One of the greatest challenges for families traveling with eight-year-olds is finding an attraction that strikes the right balance between safety and thrill. At eight, children are often too old for simple toddler splash pads, yet they may not quite meet the height restrictions—or possess the appetite—for heart-stopping, 16-meter vertical drop slides.
This is precisely where Ramayana excels. The park features over 20 world-class water slides, categorized thoughtfully by intensity. What makes it exceptionally family-friendly is that children over 106 cm can access almost every single slide in the park, with the exception of the most extreme speed traps like the Aqualoop and Free Fall.
For Leonardo, this meant a vast playground of medium-intensity descents that delivered all the excitement of a “big kid” park without feeling overwhelming. He spent hours mastering the park’s multi-lane racer slides and curved tube rides:

While the slides provided plenty of bursts of adrenaline, there was one attraction that stole Leonardo’s heart above all others: The Lazy Wavy River.
Calling Ramayana’s river “lazy” is almost a misnomer—it is a 600-meter-long continuous water journey that winds gracefully around the perimeter of an ancient hill. It is officially the longest lazy river in Thailand, and it feels more like a scenic jungle boat ride than a pool.
Leonardo was completely captivated by its design. Floating along on a single tube (or sometimes just swimming freely alongside us with his life jacket), he navigated a route filled with interactive surprises: Mystical Grottoes & Caves: Dark, cool tunnels carved into artificial rock faces featuring misty water curtains and ambient light. Geysers & Water Bubblers: Unexpected jets of water shooting from the riverbed that kept Leonardo laughing and trying to steer his tube through the spray. Gentle Waves: Periodic wave generators that created small, ocean-like swells along specific stretches of the river, turning a tranquil float into a playful bobbing adventure.
We lost count of how many laps we completed around the 600-meter loop. For Leonardo, the Lazy River wasn’t just a place to relax between slides; it was an ongoing adventure zone where he could float, splash, dive, and explore to his heart’s content.
Culinary Delights & Cashless Convenience
A non-stop day of swimming, climbing towers, and battling waves burns calories at an astonishing rate. Fortunately, Ramayana’s approach to food and beverage services is designed to be as seamless and enjoyable as its aquatic attractions.
Seamless Wristband Credit System
One of the most frustrating aspects of visiting a water park can be managing money while wet. Ramayana solves this entirely with a cashless RFID wristband system. Upon arrival, guests can load credit onto their wristbands using cash or card at the front desk or top-up kiosks. Whenever Leonardo wanted a cold bottle of water, a fresh fruit smoothie, or an afternoon ice cream, a simple scan of the wristband completed the transaction in seconds. Any unused credit on the wristbands is fully refunded at the end of the day, making the entire experience effortless.

From a parental standpoint, what impressed my wife and me most was the rigorous attention to safety and hygiene evident throughout the park.
