Ronaldo Headlines Saudi Arabia’s New Tourism Campaign

Ronaldo and Saudi’s “Unreal Calendar”

Saudi Arabia has taken another bold step in positioning itself as a leading global destination with the launch of its “Unreal Calendar” tourism campaign, headlined by none other than football legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

As Saudi’s most high-profile resident and star striker for Riyadh’s Al-Nassr club, Ronaldo is more than just the face of football in the kingdom—he has now become the ambassador for a broader story: one where Saudi Arabia blends sports, culture, and entertainment to attract visitors worldwide.

The campaign is targeted at audiences in Europe, India, and China, making use of digital platforms, television, social media, and online travel agencies.

“I Came for Football, I Stayed for More”

The campaign’s tagline, “I Came for Football, I Stayed For More,” sums up the message perfectly. While football might be the initial attraction, Saudi Arabia now offers a calendar packed with global sporting events, cultural festivals, music performances, fashion shows, and film screenings.

Ronaldo himself appears across the campaign, attending events and sharing his admiration for the kingdom. “What I admire most about Saudi is how it honours its roots while building for the future. From camels to horses, racing to esports, from the desert to the stadium—this is a place where every young athlete can dream big,” he says.

Spotlight on Major Global Events

The “Unreal Calendar” doesn’t just highlight what’s happening today, but what’s to come. Saudi Arabia is preparing to host some of the world’s most prestigious events, including:

  • FIFA World Cup 2034

  • AFC Asian Cup 2027

  • Riyadh Fashion Week

  • Red Sea International Film Festival

These events are designed to position the kingdom as a year-round tourism hub, where international visitors can experience both world-class entertainment and deep cultural heritage.

Curated Travel Packages for Visitors

To make things easier for global travelers, the campaign promotes custom-designed travel packages, allowing visitors to explore Saudi’s attractions while attending their chosen events. This approach ensures that the journey is not just about sports or festivals, but about experiencing the country as a whole—its landscapes, traditions, and hospitality.

Saudi’s Tourism Ambitions

Saudi’s Minister of Tourism and STA Chairman Ahmed Al-Khateeb highlighted the nation’s ambition, stating: “Today, Saudi is cementing its place as a global destination that combines cultural authenticity, warm hospitality, and the thrill of world-class events.”

With a target of welcoming 150 million visitors by 2030, Saudi Arabia is clearly accelerating its tourism strategy, transforming itself into a powerhouse of cultural and sporting tourism.

Ronaldo’s Ongoing Role

This isn’t Ronaldo’s first collaboration with the Saudi tourism sector. Earlier in 2025, he appeared with fiancée Georgina Rodríguez in a campaign promoting Aroya Cruises, Saudi’s luxury cruise line.

Now, with “Unreal Calendar,” he continues to embody the kingdom’s message to the world: Saudi Arabia is more than football—it’s a place of diverse, unforgettable experiences.
