Jurassic World: The Experience Bangkok – Leonardo’s Family Adventure

After watching and rewatching the Jurassic Park movies more times than I can count, our eight-year-old son Leonardo thought he knew what to expect. He was wrong. So were we. This wasn’t just an exhibition – it was a full-throttle, heart-pounding journey into the world of Isla Nublar that left our entire family breathless.

Our road trip through Bangkok brought together two families – my wife Noi, Leonardo, me, and our dear friends from Italy with their two children. This journey was part of our ongoing mission to collect material for Asian Itinerary’s travel-with-kids section, and Jurassic World: The Experience at Asiatique The Riverfront Destination proved to be one of the most spectacular stops on our itinerary.

First Contact: The Amber and The DNA

The adventure begins before you even step into the main attraction. At the entrance pavilion, staff dressed in authentic Jurassic World ranger gear welcome visitors and set the scene with a gripping introduction. They explain how dinosaur DNA has been extracted from prehistoric mosquitoes preserved in amber – just like in the films. Leonardo’s eyes went wide as they passed around blocks of amber with giant mosquitoes trapped inside, their prehistoric legs frozen in time. Leonardo reached out tentatively, his small fingers tracing the outline of a mosquito that had been encased for millions of years. It’s the kind of detail that immediately immerses you in the world of Jurassic World, making the science feel tangible and real.

The Ferry to Isla Nublar

Then comes the moment everyone waits for – boarding the ‘ferry’ that will take us to Isla Nublar. The interior is spectacular, designed to replicate a real ferry. We took our seats as the windows in front opened to reveal the ocean and the distant outline of the island. Leonardo pressed his face against the glass, unable to contain his excitement. But then the side windows flickered to life, and LED screens displayed dinosaurs swimming alongside the boat and flying overhead. The images are so perfect, so seamlessly integrated, that they feel utterly real. The sea moves, the boat rocks gently, and for a few minutes, you genuinely believe you are crossing the ocean toward the legendary island. Leonardo gripped my hand tightly, his mouth hanging open in pure wonder. It’s storytelling at its finest.

Five Zones of Pure Wonder

The park itself is divided into five enormous zones, each dedicated to different species. The journey begins with the gentle giants – Brachiosaurs and other herbivores, towering above us with their impossibly long necks. The sheer scale is overwhelming; these creatures are life-sized, and standing beside them makes you feel tiny. Leonardo tilted his head back as far as it would go, trying to see the top of a Brachiosaur’s head, and whispered, “Dad, it’s bigger than in the movies!”

But the atmosphere shifts as we move deeper. The Velociraptor zone is a standout – a dedicated enclosure complete with the classic restraints seen in the films. Leonardo recognised them immediately, his face lighting up with recognition. The raptors move with terrifying realism, their eyes tracking visitors, their breathing visible in the dim light. Leonardo took a step back, instinctively moving closer to me. And then comes the climax: the Indominus Rex battling a Carnotaurus. The two massive predators clash in a spectacle of sound and motion that seems impossibly real. Children and adults alike stood transfixed, some stepping back instinctively as the creatures lunged. Leonardo covered his ears but couldn’t look away – he was completely captivated.

Animatronics That Defy Belief

What makes this experience truly extraordinary is the quality of the animatronics. The dinosaurs are built to movie-grade specifications, with real movements, expressions, eyelids that slowly blink, and jaws that open to reveal teeth and tongues. The sounds are perfectly synchronised, played at high volume to create genuine suspense. Every roar echoes through the halls, and every footstep vibrates through the floor. Leonardo kept asking, “Are they real? Are you sure they’re not real?” No matter how many times I assured him they were machines, the illusion was so perfect that even I had to remind myself.

The staff, dressed as Jurassic World rangers, maintain the illusion flawlessly. Throughout our visit, they received urgent calls on their walkie-talkies. Alarms blared. A glass panel shattered, and we were hurried – no, we were rushed – toward the next sector. Children and adults sprinted together, some genuinely frightened, others laughing with exhilaration. Leonardo ran beside our friends’ children, his face a mixture of fear and delight. It was organised chaos, perfectly choreographed to deliver the thrill of a real emergency without any actual danger. Leonardo later admitted that his heart was pounding “like a T-Rex was chasing us.”

A Baby Dino and Gentle Moments

Despite the intensity, there are quieter, more tender moments. In one section, a ranger holds a baby dinosaur that visitors can gently pet. It reacts to strokes with soft movements and sounds, a moment of wonder that connects visitors to the idea that these magnificent creatures were once hatchlings too. Leonardo approached cautiously at first, but when the ranger encouraged him, he reached out and stroked the baby dinosaur’s back. Its gentle cooing made Leonardo giggle, and he looked back at us with the purest joy. For the younger children – including our friends’ kids – this was a highlight, a chance to interact directly with the world of Jurassic World in a safe, gentle way. Leonardo refused to leave until he had petted the baby dinosaur at least three times.

The Field Research Lab offers a different kind of excitement, blending education with interactive discovery. Here, visitors can try their hand at digging for fossils, learn about dinosaur eras and diets, and uncover replica bones just like real palaeontologists. Leonardo spent a solid twenty minutes at the fossil dig, carefully brushing away sand to reveal a dinosaur bone, declaring himself “the best dinosaur hunter in the world.” Our Italian friends’ children joined him, and soon all the kids were competing to find the most impressive fossil.

A Cinematic Experience from Start to Finish

This is not a quick walk-through. The entire journey takes approximately one to one and a half hours, depending on how much time you spend in each zone. Spread across 6,000 square metres at Asiatique, the attraction is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. Every detail, from the lighting and sound design to the themed environments and narrative structure, is crafted to cinematic standards. The immersive experience is produced by NEON, a global leader in immersive exhibitions, in collaboration with Universal Live Entertainment, ensuring world-class quality throughout. Leonardo was so absorbed that he barely noticed the time passing – and trust me, for an eight-year-old, that’s the highest praise possible.

The Verdict: A Must-Visit for Families

Of all the family experiences I have tried in my life, Jurassic World: The Experience ranks among the best. It is impeccably organised, visually stunning, and emotionally engaging for both children and adults. Leonardo couldn’t stop talking about it for days – at breakfast, in the car, before bed, he relived every moment. Our Italian friends, visiting Thailand for the first time, declared it one of the most incredible attractions they had ever seen.

Two days in Bangkok, and leaving the hotel was almost a shame – but this adventure was more than worth it. If you’re travelling with kids who love dinosaurs – or even if you’re just a kid at heart – Jurassic World: The Experience is an absolute must. And if Leonardo’s reaction is anything to go by, it’s an experience that will stay with your family forever.
