Durante una ricerca Internet sui siti culturali di Penang in Malesia, ho scoperto l’incredibile Penang Peranakan Mansion, la tipica dimora dei ricchi nati nello stretto di Malacca circa un secolo fa, ricreata per offrire uno sguardo al loro lussuoso stile di vita e alle loro usanze e tradizioni.

I nati nello stretto (noti anche come i Peranakan) sono stati l’elite privilegiata dell’arcipelago malese per mezzo millennio, discendenti da matrimoni tra mercanti stranieri e donne locali nell’arcipelago malese – Malesia, Indonesia e Thailandia – formando una razza unica con una distintiva identità culturale propria.
