Wiang Kum Kam a Chiang Mai, Thailandia, fu costruita da Phya Meng Rai dopo aver distrutto e sottomesso il Regno Mon Haripoonchai nel 1281. Rimase a Haripoonchai per alcuni anni e poi nel 1286/7 si stabilì e costruì Wiang Kum Kam, la sua nuova città.

Phya Meng Rai riteneva che, oltre alla religione, Wiang Kum Kam dovesse essere un centro di commercio, agricoltura e politica. Wiang Kum Kam era considerata una località molto appropriata, poiché si riteneva che il fattore ambientale naturale fosse favorevole alla crescita della società dell’epoca.
