Saudi Arabia has historical sites. These sites are Islamic in character and have a deep cultural aspect. This land has ancient cities and sacred landmarks. This country reflects the journey of its past, full of culture and heritage. It also shows how the land evolves as the religion of Islam spreads throughout its lands. Apart from its heritage and culture, Saudi Arabia has a lot more things to explore. Cultural Guide to Saudi Arabia As Saudi Arabia drowns in its age of transformation, it is redefining itself on the global tourism scene. Many Umrah packages from Manchester are now available, thus UK Muslims can easily start a smooth trip combining spirituality and adventure. The Kingdom has invited pilgrims and guests from around the world so that visitors may fully appreciate Arabian culture. Many cultural aficionados and visitors gather in the Middle Eastern core to observe a living site and a historical society brought to full glory. Jubba Palaeolithic Kingdom North of Hail in north Saudi Arabia is the Jubba Palaeolithic Kingdom. A breathtaking archaeological site and excellent evidence of Saudi Arabian prehistoric riches. As Jubba is a World Heritage site, nobody can argue that it is not culturally appropriate. Dozens of prehistoric murals are on the surface of the dry lake bed, upon which warriors and cattle are painted. They give very interesting insight into early man’s life. Al Khalaf Archaeological Village This short detour off the main road in the province of Asir, immediately past Abha, will take your breath away. There are several ‘archaeological villages’ and ‘tourist villages’ scattered throughout Saudi Arabia. But this one is breathtaking. Empty mud brick, old-fashioned design ‘Asir-type’ tower houses with beautifully one-off, precise doors and concealed paintings. It was as if on a ‘pilgrimage’ to all of the doors, so tastefully set among the other mud-colored buildings. Many Muslims from the UK, often visiting through a reputable Umrah travel agency, take time to explore such cultural gems alongside their pilgrimage. This adds a rich historical and local experience to their spiritual journey. Al Wa’bah Crater (or Al Wahbah) Although you were headed for an excavation on the Riyadh-Taif road rather than toward a traditional volcanic crater, 2.2 kilometres wide and 250 meters deep, Harrat Kishb’s western Saudi Arabian lava flows. Considered already as a meteor crater, most people now view it as a large, relatively shallow crater spanning millions of years. For UK Muslims visiting Saudi Arabia for Umrah or exploring nearby attractions, this site offers a chance to witness the breathtaking power of Allah’s creation beyond the holy cities. Edge of the World (Jebel Fihrayn) Jebel Fihrayn, a beautiful cliff just one hour from Riyadh, is a site that any nature enthusiast, history enthusiast, and adventure-seeker with a heart for visiting cultural sites will have to see. Its 300-meter fall to the below-gravel is a sight to behold, especially if viewed during morning hours. A person can also walk over the steps of such age-old peddlers like Nabataeans, who had already passed through this place with their incense caravans and were left in good, fine pieces of work. Rijal Alma & the Aseer Highlands Rijal Alma, the stunningly beautiful south-west Saudi Arabian village of Aseer Mountain, is one of the evidences of the country’s heritage and history. Worthily restored well old structures of ginormous wooden and rocky mansions floating in the air, placed amidst nature, immaculately well maintained by the ancient village. American Muslims in groups wish to walk around Rijal Alma seeking information on the Saudi culture and history of the location, and proceed further to finish their religious pilgrimage. Tabuk & the Hisma Desert Tabuk is quite a culturally advanced city, and there are a few places which reflect the success that historic Saudi Arabia has achieved. Saudi Arabia’s north-western coast is blessed to have been privileged with the honour of having been granted the gift of having possessed just the right number of such places as having archaeological sites, as monumentally preserved sites. For UK Muslims visiting the Kingdom for Umrah or leisure, Tabuk offers a meaningful extension to their spiritual journey. Jabal Shada Mystery Village Al-Baha west-granite domes topped a fairly cliff-village at walking distance along one goat path. The ancient village has ghostly stone huts and lintels gracefully ornamented. They whisper in murmurs of vanished ages. That early human painted caves is only half the riddle, and the trekker can. The presence of men and women who lived in this village, and whether they disappeared. Conclusion This land caters to the curious visitor with its sacred ancient pilgrimage routes and imperial Nabataean tombs. Your respect for the country you are exploring is requested. Especially since you will be visiting pilgrimage sites which are reserved only for Muslims. UK Muslims recently showed interest in visiting Saudi Arabia more often. Not only to perform the Holy pilgrimages but to explore the rich culture and treasures. Saudi Arabia provides you with an amazing experience in discovering its limitless and vast lands.

As Saudi Arabia drowns in its age of transformation, it is redefining itself on the global tourism scene.

Jubba Palaeolithic Kingdom

Saudi Arabia cultural sites and heritage: Jubba Palaeolithic Kingdom

North of Hail in north Saudi Arabia is the Jubba Palaeolithic Kingdom.

Al Khalaf Archaeological Village

This short detour off the main road in the province of Asir, immediately past Abha, will take your breath away.

Al Wa’bah Crater (or Al Wahbah)

Al Wa’bah Crater

Although you were headed for an excavation on the Riyadh-Taif road rather than toward a traditional volcanic crater, 2.2 kilometres wide and 250 meters deep, Harrat Kishb’s western Saudi Arabian lava flows.

Edge of the World (Jebel Fihrayn)

Jebel Fihrayn, a beautiful cliff just one hour from Riyadh, is a site that any nature enthusiast, history enthusiast, and adventure-seeker with a heart for visiting cultural sites will have to see. Its 300-meter fall to the below-gravel is a sight to behold, especially if viewed during morning hours. A person can also walk over the steps of such age-old peddlers like Nabataeans, who had already passed through this place with their incense caravans and were left in good, fine pieces of work.

Rijal Alma & the Aseer Highlands

Rijal Alma & the Aseer Highlands

Rijal Alma, the stunningly beautiful south-west Saudi Arabian village of Aseer Mountain, is one of the evidences of the country’s heritage and history.

Tabuk & the Hisma Desert

Tabuk is quite a culturally advanced city, and there are a few places which reflect the success that historic Saudi Arabia has achieved.

Jabal Shada Mystery Village

Jabal Shada Mystery Village

Al-Baha west-granite domes topped a fairly cliff-village at walking distance along one goat path. The ancient village has ghostly stone huts and lintels gracefully ornamented. They whisper in murmurs of vanished ages. That early human painted caves is only half the riddle, and the trekker can. The presence of men and women who lived in this village, and whether they disappeared.

Conclusion

This land caters to the curious visitor with its sacred ancient pilgrimage routes and imperial Nabataean tombs.

With its rich history and exceptional spiritual significance, Saudi Arabia stands tall as the hub of spirituality for Muslims. No better place in the world promises a spiritual and faith revival like the sacred cities of Makkah and Madinah for the believers in Islam. The famous Islamic landmarks in Saudi Arabia take you on a journey through the legacy of the prophets and to the places mentioned in the Holy Quran. Millions visit the sacred cities in Saudi Arabia for a faith revival. This spiritual journey promises a profound spiritual transformation for anyone who undertakes it with a pure heart and genuine intentions. Hajj and Umrah are also the pilgrimages that give Muslims a chance at redemption, and many UK travellers like yourself take advantage of this opportunity every year. If you are also looking for Umrah packages from the UK, you can soon experience the spiritual renewal that this pilgrimage promises. Top Islamic Landmarks for a Spiritual Retreat in Saudi Arabia Here are some famous Islamic landmarks that elevate the spiritual journey. Masjid al-Haram It wouldn’t be wrong to say that this glorious mosque is the heart of Makkah and the whole Islamic world. Masjid an-Haram is the place for the sacred house of the Almighty. This cubic structure is the Qibla of the Muslims, the site in the direction of which the whole Muslim community turn for their daily prayers. It is also the centre of worship, and when pilgrims circle it, they are displaying their devotion to the Almighty. The Tawaf, circling the Kaaba, remind Muslims of their purpose, which is to worship the Almighty alone. Numerous Islamic landmarks are located within Masjid al-Haram. The Kaaba might be the most prominent one, but there are also Safa and Marwah, Maqam-e-Ibrahim, and the Zamzam well nearby. Masjid an-Nabawi After talking about the most sacred site in Islam, it is only fair to mention the second-holiest one. The last resting place of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Masjid an-Nabawi, attracts millions of devotees every year. All pilgrims who arrive in Makkah for the pilgrimage make sure to visit this sacred mosque, due to its spiritual significance, even though it is not a requirement for the pilgrimage. The green dome of Masjid an-Nabawi brings an unmatched peace. The tranquil atmosphere of the mosque soothes your heart. You will be surprised to know that this mosque features a garden reminiscent of the Gardens of Paradise. How can a believer’s heart want to come back from the Garden of Paradise? Additionally, praying at this mosque also offers significant rewards. Jabal al-Rahma Jabal al-Rahma, also known as Mount Arafat, is a prominent site for the Hajj. Not only does this mountain have a prominent place in Islamic history, but it also has great spiritual significance. When Hajj pilgrims stand at this mountain, it is the ultimate spiritual climax for them. Pilgrims spend their day here supplicating and asking for the forgiveness of Allah Almighty. You will not have to visit Jabal al-Rahma for your Umrah rituals. But if you want to explore all the spiritual landmarks during your time in Makkah and Madinah, make sure not to miss this one out. You will feel the essence of the obligatory pilgrimage here. Also, learning about its historic significance is always a spiritually enlightening experience. Cave Hira Whenever Islamic history is being told, Cave Hira is mentioned. This shows the historic significance of this cave in Islam. Our beloved Prophet (SAW) chose this cave as a place to meditate, away from the chaos of daily life. And while meditating, he received the divine message in this cave. It is the site of the first revelation of the Holy Quran. This is the place from where the prophethood of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) started. Pilgrims who visit this cave not only feel connected to Islamic history but also have the opportunity to learn about the importance of solitude, humility, faith, and spiritual dedication. It takes you back in time and deepens your commitment to the Holy Prophet (SAW), the Holy Quran, and Islam as a whole. Masjid Quba Located near Madinah, Masjid Quba is renowned not only for its tranquil atmosphere but also for its rich Islamic history. You will be surprised to know that this is among the few mosques mentioned in the Holy Quran. Do you know why? This is because it is the first mosque of Islam. When Prophet Muhammad (SAW) migrated from Makkah to Madinah with his followers, he instructed them to assist in building this beautiful mosque. When you are at this mosque, you will feel the struggles and faith of the early Muslims. Additionally, knowing that our Prophet (SAW) also participated in its construction makes it even more sacred and spiritually significant. As if it were enough for the pilgrims to visit it, praying two rakaats here also gives you the reward of an Umrah. Final Words Going around the Islamic landmarks of Saudi Arabia is not just basic sightseeing. It is a spiritual retreat in itself, promising a faith revival. With each site you visit, you will be reminded of the faith, history, and sacrifices through which Islam was laid for us. It is truly a memorable experience that revives the faith of pilgrims.

Located near Madinah, Masjid Quba is renowned not only for its tranquil atmosphere but also for its rich Islamic history. You will be surprised to know that this is among the few mosques mentioned in the Holy Quran.

Masjid Quba

Do you know why? This is because it is the first mosque of Islam. When Prophet Muhammad (SAW) migrated from Makkah to Madinah with his followers, he instructed them to assist in building this beautiful mosque.

When you are at this mosque, you will feel the struggles and faith of the early Muslims. Additionally, knowing that our Prophet (SAW) also participated in its construction makes it even more sacred and spiritually significant. As if it were enough for the pilgrims to visit it, praying two rakaats here also gives you the reward of an Umrah.

Ronaldo and Saudi’s “Unreal Calendar” Saudi Arabia has taken another bold step in positioning itself as a leading global destination with the launch of its “Unreal Calendar” tourism campaign, headlined by none other than football legend Cristiano Ronaldo. As Saudi’s most high-profile resident and star striker for Riyadh’s Al-Nassr club, Ronaldo is more than just the face of football in the kingdom—he has now become the ambassador for a broader story: one where Saudi Arabia blends sports, culture, and entertainment to attract visitors worldwide. The campaign is targeted at audiences in Europe, India, and China, making use of digital platforms, television, social media, and online travel agencies. “I Came for Football, I Stayed for More” The campaign’s tagline, “I Came for Football, I Stayed For More,” sums up the message perfectly. While football might be the initial attraction, Saudi Arabia now offers a calendar packed with global sporting events, cultural festivals, music performances, fashion shows, and film screenings. Ronaldo himself appears across the campaign, attending events and sharing his admiration for the kingdom. “What I admire most about Saudi is how it honours its roots while building for the future. From camels to horses, racing to esports, from the desert to the stadium—this is a place where every young athlete can dream big,” he says. Spotlight on Major Global Events The “Unreal Calendar” doesn’t just highlight what’s happening today, but what’s to come. Saudi Arabia is preparing to host some of the world’s most prestigious events, including: FIFA World Cup 2034 AFC Asian Cup 2027 Riyadh Fashion Week Red Sea International Film Festival These events are designed to position the kingdom as a year-round tourism hub, where international visitors can experience both world-class entertainment and deep cultural heritage. Curated Travel Packages for Visitors To make things easier for global travelers, the campaign promotes custom-designed travel packages, allowing visitors to explore Saudi’s attractions while attending their chosen events. This approach ensures that the journey is not just about sports or festivals, but about experiencing the country as a whole—its landscapes, traditions, and hospitality. Saudi’s Tourism Ambitions Saudi’s Minister of Tourism and STA Chairman Ahmed Al-Khateeb highlighted the nation’s ambition, stating: “Today, Saudi is cementing its place as a global destination that combines cultural authenticity, warm hospitality, and the thrill of world-class events.” With a target of welcoming 150 million visitors by 2030, Saudi Arabia is clearly accelerating its tourism strategy, transforming itself into a powerhouse of cultural and sporting tourism. Ronaldo’s Ongoing Role This isn’t Ronaldo’s first collaboration with the Saudi tourism sector. Earlier in 2025, he appeared with fiancée Georgina Rodríguez in a campaign promoting Aroya Cruises, Saudi’s luxury cruise line. Now, with “Unreal Calendar,” he continues to embody the kingdom’s message to the world: Saudi Arabia is more than football—it’s a place of diverse, unforgettable experiences.
Aman Group, the world’s preeminent lifestyle and hospitality brand, announces two forthcoming destinations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in partnership with Diriyah Company – Aman Wadi Safar and Janu Diriyah. Aman Wadi Safar, located in the exceptional desert landscape near the city of Riyadh, will be home to a 78-key Aman hotel, a collection of up to 34 Aman Branded Residences, and expansive amenities including a vast Aman Spa and an array of dining experiences. Following the successful opening of Aman New York, Denniston Architects has been appointed to bring Jean-Michel Gathy’s extensive experience combining Aman’s renowned design language with the local culture, heritage, and landscape of a destination to the project. Aman Wadi Safar will draw inspiration from its pristine natural environment, as well as traditional Najdi design elements, to embrace the values of a community lifestyle, creating a resort setting which weaves amongst the wadis and plateaus of the site, reinforcing the connection between the property and its otherworldly desert location. Aman Wadi Safar is expected to open in 2026. Additionally, Aman Group announces Janu Diriyah, an additional property in the strong pipeline for Aman’s sister-brand Janu, which means ‘Soul’ in Sanskrit. Announced in 2020, Janu has been created with a different pace and energy to Aman, designed to encourage connectedness and shared experiences. Janu Diriyah, expected to open in 2026, will be located within close proximity to the Unesco Heritage Site of At-Turaif close to the historic city of Riyadh. Comprising 120 hotel rooms and a spa, as part of the Janu Wellness offering, the property will include a multitude of dining and experiences and will create memorable moments which build lasting connection amongst its like-minded community of guests. Speaking about the two new projects, Vlad Doronin, Chairman and CEO of Aman Group, said: “This announcement marks a continuation of Aman Group’s commitment to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Aman Wadi Safar and Janu Diriyah Gate build upon Aman Group’s existing pipeline of properties in Saudi Arabia and reinforce my strategic vision to offer our clients the opportunity to experience the breadth of this fascinating, and previously undiscovered country with journeys that encompass city experiences, remote desert landscapes and Unesco Heritage Sites.” Jerry Inzerillo, Group CEO, Diriyah Company, commented: “We are very proud to launch Diriyah’s partnership with Aman, delivering two outstanding projects in Wadi Safar and Diriyah. Diriyah, the City of Earth, will be the world’s largest cultural and heritage destination and these projects will enhance our luxury offerings to guests who come to explore our identity. Aman Group have developed these projects by harnessing our unique setting at the heart of 300 years of Saudi history, while embracing our shared future as a city and a community. We are delighted to celebrate the beginning of our journey together.” Aman Group has already announced three properties in the pipeline within AlUla, Saudi Arabia, two of which will be Aman destinations, as well as Janu AlUla. Additionally, Aman Group has announced Project Sama, the brand’s first luxury motor yacht being developed in partnership with Cruise Saudi, which will offer on-the-water voyages in the Red Sea, as well as in the Mediterranean.

Saudi Arabia has recently reopened to the public the historic site of At-Turaif in the city of Diriyah, one of the most important in the country. The Unesco world heritage site had been closed for over 10 years for renovation work. The center narrates through objects and documents the birth of Saudi Arabia. It is the first time the center will be open to the public since it gained Unesco designation in 2010. The city of Diriyah is very close to the capital Riyadh, in the center of Saudi Arabia and it is famous to walk along its little roads and admire the best examples of traditional Najdi architecture, including the historic palace that has been completely renovated which was the original house of the Al Saud family, the Saudi dynasty that still rules the country today. At-Turaif encompasses the remains of a traditional human settlement developed in a desert environment, dating from the 15th century. It consists almost entirely of mud-brick structures. They are a unique example of the Najdi architectural and decorative style developed to cope with the extreme desert climate. The site includes Salwa Palace, Saad bin Saud Palace, The Guest House and At-Turaif Bath House, and Imam Mohammad bin Saud Mosque. Diriyah was the original home of the Saudi royal family, and served as the capital of the first Saudi dynasty from 1744 to 1818, when it was destroyed following the Ottomans’ invasion of Arabia. At-Turaif is once again open to visitors to make them travel through time, observing how the country was reborn, launching projects that have led to today’s Saudi Arabia from a political and architectural standpoint. Visitors will also be able to walk in the area of At-Turaid, designed to share details of the importance of the region in the country’s evolution. There will also be a schedule of activities including theatrical performances that will provide a glimpse of what life was like in the first Saudi state. The calendar of events for winter also includes an Arab horse show, traditional coffee experiences and calligraphy workshops. Also reopening to the public is the Bujairi Terrace which is becoming one of the most important sites for a luxury dinner in the Saudi kingdom. Cafes and restaurants will also open in the area soon, all planned respecting traditional Saudi architecture and the city will widen with the opening soon of large new hotels with an urban development plan designed to attract more than 30 million visitors a year by 2030. For a good historical background information on At-Turaif, a visit to the impressive National Musuem of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh is a must.
