THIM currently provides access to the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) and a selection of travel promotions. The TDAC remains available through the Immigration Bureau’s website, but the app offers another channel for travellers to complete and submit the digital arrival card before departure. For anyone arriving on a busy weekend or during peak season, having that form submitted in advance is a small but genuinely useful time-saver. A Closer Look at the TDAC The TDAC replaced Thailand’s traditional paper arrival card and must be completed before travel. Completing it through THIM does not change the requirement itself — it simply gives travellers a single, official channel for the process, alongside travel information and promotions. Announced features are not the same as live features, and immigration rules remain the authority. Identity Checks and Personal-Data Protection The bureau said THIM has been designed with data accuracy and security as central features. The app can read passport information and electronic passport chips through Near Field Communication (NFC), and uses liveness detection and facial comparison for identity verification and authentication. Its stated safeguards include encryption during transmission and storage, the separation of biometric details from other personal data, access controls and activity logging. Personal information is protected under Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act BE 2562 (2019) and other applicable laws, the bureau said. The application uses Amazon Web Services through the AWS Asia Pacific (Bangkok) Region, with measures covering threat detection, monitoring, encryption and communications between systems. For travellers who have grown cautious about handing over biometric data to apps, those details matter. The separation of biometric data from other personal information is a particularly relevant safeguard. Explore Thailand: Travel Offers in the Same App THIM’s Explore Thailand feature links users to participating businesses offering coupons and privileges, redeemable by QR code or promotion code under each company’s terms and conditions. Launch partners included The Mall Group, GrabTaxi (Thailand), Wipay, True Corporation, The Minor Food Group, Minor International and Bangkok Dusit Medical Services. The bureau plans to broaden the feature to include details of attractions, accommodation and activities. It is an unusual move for an immigration app — blending border formalities with consumer travel promotions. Whether travellers embrace that combination remains to be seen, but it does point to a broader ambition: positioning THIM as a companion for the entire journey, not just the arrival hall. What This Means for Your Next Trip to Asia For now, the sensible approach is simple. If you are travelling to Thailand, download THIM and use it to complete your TDAC before departure. Keep an eye on official Immigration Bureau channels for confirmation when additional services go live, rather than assuming they are already available. For repeat visitors and expats, the app is worth watching. If queue bookings, visa extensions and 90-day reporting do eventually move into a single platform, the change could remove a significant amount of administrative friction from living and travelling in the region.
