Firefly Bar at Sindhorn Kempinski Hotel Bangkok introduces its newest cocktail menu, “In Pursuit of the Firefly,” a playful and imaginative collection that celebrates the mystical creature at the heart of the bar’s identity. Fun and whimsical in tone, the menu invites guests on a journey of discovery through inventive flavour combinations, thoughtful design, and educational storytelling. While previous menus explored the firefly’s travels around the world through flavour and experience, this new chapter focuses on a deeper understanding of its life and significance. “A magical sight to uphold, fireflies are becoming increasingly rare – especially in a city like Bangkok,” says Beverage Manager Dicky Hartono. “This menu celebrates and honours the firefly, raising awareness of this special creature and helping to keep its magic alive.” The menu is divided into four chapters: Etymology, Ecosystem, Luminescence, and Mythology. From the introductory Etymology section, “Where Is The Cricket” (Stranger and Sons Gin, Mr. Three and Bros Ginger Falernum, cricket protein, chocolate and banana, kaffir lime, clarified milk, and mixed spices) represents the three parts of a firefly – head, thorax, and abdomen – working together in harmony. In the Ecosystem chapter, “Blue Moon” (Michter’s American Whiskey and Michter’s Rye, redistilled with Sri Sindhorn Tea, peach, blue spirulina, and Lustau Amontillado) captures the moment fireflies illuminate the sky at sunset, glowing blue to symbolise their connection to moonlight. From the Luminescence section, “Tres Elementos” (Ron Matusalem Gran Reserva 15, Aperol, Bergamotto Liqueur, Ron Matusalem Solera 7 pineapple distillate, and sparkling tomato water) is garnished with tomato, pineapple, and kiwi, representing the optical illusion of a firefly’s light appearing orange, yellow, and green simultaneously. Another Luminescence highlight, “Gorgeous Lady in Red” (Lady Trieu Contemporary Gin, Tito’s Handmade Vodka infused with hibiscus, pomegranate Shiraz wine reduction, Teara Sakura Japanese Liqueur, citrus, and a decorative bubble), reflects the firefly’s ability to draw attention without sound or movement. From the Mythology chapter, “Journey to Amphawa” (Phraya Rum 8 Years, Prakaan Select Cask, kaffir lime, Silpin Regal Lamduan, lychee, coconut, lime, vegan foam, and Silpin Malai spray) pays homage to the riverside town famous for its floating market and nighttime firefly displays. The table of contents presents each cocktail on a visual axis – from Fruity & Light to Complex & Bitter, and Strong & Bold to Sour & Refreshing – offering guests an immediate sense of each drink’s style. Each cocktail is then explored across a full page, featuring an illustration that tells its story alongside a depiction of the drink itself, showcasing its colour, glassware, garnish, and texture. Descriptive flavour notes such as vegetal, herbaceous, fruity, or subtly spiced further enhance the experience. At the bottom of each page, a moon icon highlights the cocktail’s position within its flavour category. The signature drinks are supplemented by three ultra-luxury cocktails featuring top-shelf spirits including The Macallan, A Night on Earth in an Old Fashioned variation, Clase Azul Reposado in the Firefly Azul Margarita, and a LOUIS XIII Sazerac. A thoughtfully curated zero-proof selection – described as “all buzz, no booze” – follows, offering a wide range of styles built around local fruits, teas, and spices. The cocktail menu is complemented by Firefly Bar’s extensive spirits collection, spanning more than 20 pages and over 370 bottles, all available by 45ml pour or by the bottle. Beyond classic neat or on-the-rocks service, guests can explore an interactive Tipple Trolley featuring martinis, negronis, and other classics, as well as a Build Your Own Gin & Tonic experience. This guided flow chart allows guests to choose from multiple tonic brands and flavours, customise garnishes, and enhance the experience with Silpin Edible Perfume Aroma, creating a fully personalised sensory journey.
