Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor has welcomed a new artist in residence ahead of the launch of a new exhibition of artworks, as the iconic 93-year-old luxury hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia continues to spotlight talented Khmer creatives. Teang Borin, popularly known as ‘DinArt’, is an audacious, self-taught artist whose work captures and exalts the essence of Cambodia’s rich religious and societal heritage.

His latest exhibition, inspired by the majesty of Khmer royalty and the distinguished colour palette of the Raffles Royal Doorman, features vivid, brilliant hues often set against a stark backdrop.

“The central concept revives the historical tradition of Khmer royalty, specifically focussing on the Royal Guards’ pantaloons. Historically, the colour of a king’s attire would change to correspond with the day of the week—a vibrant, visual reminder of the calendar and its spiritual significance,” said curator Nat Di Maggio of the local Tribe Art Gallery.

Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor will host DinArt for a ‘meet-the-artist’ event on Dec. 18 (starting at 6 p.m.) that includes a gin and canape pairing priced at $25. The exhibition of DinArt’s works can also be experienced on a private guided tour led by the resident artist or by Di Maggio.

“Raffles remains committed to highlighting the remarkable artists of Cambodia, and we are pleased to present this Raffles Curated Collection featuring the remarkable works of DinArt,” said Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor General Manager Joseph Colina.

The exhibition is the latest in Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor’s ongoing art and cultural series, and follows a two-artist show that concluded in October and a display earlier this year of notable works by another celebrated Khmer painter.

Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor, the 93-year-old luxury hotel on the doorstep of ancient Khmer archeological sites in Cambodia, has introduced a new art exhibition spotlighting works by two of the country’s most influential contemporary painters. The show, titled “Harmony,” is an artistic homage to the delicate balance of Cambodia’s natural world, featuring vibrant new works by Morn Chear and Nak Noy, who were both born and raised in Siem Reap. The exhibition, which opened last month and runs until September, was curated by Nat Di Maggio from Tribe Art Gallery.

The birds, fish, elephants and other creatures in the paintings symbolize not only Cambodia’s rich biodiversity, but they are also integral to Khmer culture, folklore and the livelihoods of modern Cambodians. The luxury heritage hotel on the doorstep of ancient Khmer archeological sites in Cambodia, will display Channy’s paintings in its elegant public areas and award-winning restaurants following an official launch event with the artist on Saturday, Jan. 18, and they will remain on view until the end of April. Channy’s exhibition, titled ‘Wild Spirits, Sacred Symbols’, is part of the 93-year-old Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor’s ongoing art and cultural series.

Channy is known for his striking acrylic paintings, particularly those depicting birds. His artworks serve as a social commentary on man’s impact on the environment and have been praised for their unique aesthetic properties. Channy, a former hunter, says he cultivated a deep respect for wildlife as he came to better understand the threats animals face in the modern world. This shift in perspective, he says, influences his artistic expression.

Channy has been spotlighted by an international tour and travel operator in its ‘Local Legends’ programme, allowing visitors to travel to the remote village of Wat Avtea, south of Siem Reap, to tour Channy’s home studio and see a gallery showcasing his works.

Equipped with 20 years of experience in the health and wellness industry, Umesh Kamar Sharma joins Alma after working at nearby The Anam Cam Ranh for seven years as a yoga and gym instructor. Prayers take place, offerings are made and incense and water are used to cleanse throughout the ritual. The water purifies in multiple ways – being poured, drunk, and dappled – but guests are not fully immersed (although a change of clothes is required). The ritual is best performed in the morning and bookings are typically made for 7am. The price is IDR 650,000 ++ per person with a minimum booking of two people.

The acclaimed Khmer fine-dining restaurant 1932 at Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor in Siem Reap has unveiled exclusive new tasting menus as it continues to elevate and redefine haute gastronomy in Cambodia. The hotel’s Khmer tasting menus were launched last year as a way to introduce diners to the distinctive flavours of the Southeast Asian cuisine. The popularity of the dining experience prompted 1932 to update the menus with several exciting new dishes available this month.

Some highlights from the new menu include Bangkorng Takeo made with Takeo freshwater lobster, Khmer thermidor sauce, morning glory and oyster sauce; Num Krouk, a Khmer rice cake with sweet and sour sauce, and lime; and Sach Ko Lok Lak, a Tajima striploin with Kampot pepper, crudite, turmeric and garlic fried rice.

“The dishes on the new Khmer tasting menu at 1932 feature the freshest, locally grown, seasonal ingredients, ensuring an outstanding representation of Cambodian flavours at their very finest,” said Executive Sous Chef Dorn Doeurt, an expert in authentic Royal Khmer cuisine and modern Khmer gastronomy, who designed the menus.

The tasting menus are categorized by decades/periods, including the 1930s (“The Reign of King Sisowath Norodom” priced at $90++), 1950s (“The Grand Renaissance” priced at $60++), 1960s (“The Golden Age” priced at $70++) and 1990s (“The Raffles Grand Legacy” priced at $100++).

All are offered with an optional wine pairing and dishes can also be ordered à la carte.

“The new tasting menus at 1932 showcase the exquisite range and remarkable tastes of Khmer cuisine in a fine-dining experience that’s second to none as an introduction to Cambodia’s top culinary offerings,” said Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor General Manager Joseph Colina.

Earlier this year, World’s 50 Best spotlighted 1932 in its Discovery list, saying the restaurant’s cuisine “delights the palate as the chefs navigate decades of Khmer culinary heritage.”

Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor was named one of the world’s “500 Best Hotels” by the industry-leading Travel + Leisure magazine in April for a third straight year. The historic hotel was also honored as one of Cambodia’s finest—with special recognition for its swimming pool and spa—in the Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific in June.

The 92-year-old luxury hotel is on the doorstep of ancient Khmer archeological sites in Cambodia and is considered a national treasure. Originally opened in 1932, the hotel was built as a rest stop for archeologists and adventurers seeking to explore the ancient kingdom of Angkor Wat, which is today one of the most popular UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
