The Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta returned for the 2nd year in Padang Polo (Polo Ground) in Penang. The crowd filled the grounds on the 9 and 10 February 2016, the 2nd and 3rd day of Chinese New Year, from 7am to 9.30pm. And what better way for local people to celebrate the festivity with their family and friends where there’s loads of fun and excitement for all ages?
This 2-day event was organised by the Penang State Government in order for visitors to have a one-of-a-kind experience. The inaugural Hot Air Balloon Fiesta held in 2015 saw over 100,000 visitors from around the region and abroad, and this year was nothing short of that.
There were over a dozen hot air balloons displayed and floating above, with a special one shaped like, what else, a monkey to commemorate the start of the Chinese year of the monkey!!
Aside from the balloon displays, there were lots of activities, like cold inflation where visitors could walk into a balloon envelope that was being filled with cold air as it lied on the ground, as well as a day and night food fair that served any kind of filling meals and drinks.
In the evenings, there was ‘night glow’ shows, free flying balloons and other side activities and entertainment, organised throughout the event.
Entrance was free, with free bus ride from Georgetown and a taxi rebate of 8RM for those reaching the ground on taxi.
Stay tuned for next year Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Penang!
