During my recent media trip through Sri Lanka with Asian Itinerary, I had the pleasure of staying at 360 Degree by Queens Mount in Kandy—a hotel that truly lives up to its name with breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the iconic Kandy Lake. The experience was all the more memorable because of the weather, the warm hospitality, and the hotel’s impeccable service.

A Rainy Day Turned Memorable

Our day started with a visit to the Ceylon Tea Museum located on a hill overlooking Kandy, which offered fascinating insights into Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage. The sky was cloudy, and rain was falling steadily—an almost typical scene during the monsoon season. We spent a couple of hours exploring the museum and enjoying the lush surroundings in the drizzle. When the rain finally stopped, we headed to our hotel, eager to settle in after a day of sightseeing.

Nestled on a hill with commanding views of Kandy Lake and the town below, 360 Degree by Queens Mount offers a peaceful retreat with a perfect vantage point to appreciate the city’s beauty. From our first glance, the hotel’s modern architecture and well-maintained exterior promised a comfortable stay, and it certainly delivered.

Warm Welcome and Excellent Service

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the hotel’s friendly and professional staff. A warm welcome from the manager set the tone for the stay. The staff was proactive and attentive, making us feel instantly at home. They took care of our check-in efficiently and asked about our preferences, ensuring our experience would be personalized.

To kick off our experience, the hotel’s manager arranged a special dinner featuring authentic Sri Lankan curries, tailored to our taste. The dinner was a highlight—rich, flavorful, and cooked with fresh local ingredients. It was a fantastic introduction to the local cuisine and a great way to start our first night in Sri Lanka.

Stunning Views from the Room

We were escorted to a spacious room with a private balcony overlooking Kandy Lake—an ideal spot for relaxing after our day of travel. The room was tastefully decorated, with modern amenities including air conditioning, a work desk, TV, and free WiFi. The beds were plush and comfortable, offering a restful night after a day of exploration.

From the balcony, the view was simply stunning—an expansive vista of the lake, the hills surrounding Kandy, and the city lights gradually twinkling as night fell. Despite the cloudy weather earlier, the scenery remained captivating, and the fresh mountain air added to the serenity.

Culinary Delights and Comfort

The breakfast at the hotel was equally impressive. A diverse spread included local Sri Lankan options, continental favorites, vegetarian, vegan, and even Halal choices. The quality of the food was excellent—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. It set us up perfectly for a day of sightseeing.

The hotel’s leisure facilities, including an indoor swimming pool and sun terrace, provided opportunities to unwind. We spent some quiet moments enjoying the scenic views from the terrace, appreciating the lush landscape and the peaceful ambiance.

• Location: The hotel is conveniently situated about 1 km from Kandy’s main attractions, such as the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth) and Kandy Museum. It’s a great base for exploring the city while enjoying a tranquil retreat.
• Accessibility: Free private parking is available on-site, which is a plus if you’re driving around Sri Lanka (as we were).
• Best time to visit: The hotel’s elevated position offers stunning views year-round, but visiting during the early morning or late afternoon provides the best lighting for photography.
• Personal tip: Don’t miss the sunset from your balcony—the changing colors over Kandy Lake are unforgettable.

My Personal Impressions

Despite the cloudy weather and occasional rain, my experience at 360 Degree by Queens Mount was nothing short of excellent. The staff’s attention to detail, the comfort of the room, and the spectacular views made it feel like a true sanctuary in the hills of Kandy. It was the perfect way to begin our Sri Lankan adventure—relaxed, well-fed, and eager to explore more.
